CEYLON
TEA MUSEUM
Preserving the Heritage of Tea
As
you enjoy the taste of a cup of Ceylon Tea, it can make you think of the
history behind the rich flavour of what is undoubtedly the world’s best tea.
Built
in 1925, the spacious four storied Hantane Tea Factory, three kilometers from
Kandy city, had been abandoned for more than a decade when it was earmarked for
the Museum Project undertaken by the Sri Lanka Tea Board and the Planters'
Association of Ceylon. Today it stands as a proud monument to the success story
that is Ceylon Tea and it is one of the best of its kind in the world.
The
museum consists of four floors. The ground floor and the second floor exhibit
very old items of machinery and the first floor consist of a library and an
auditorium with facilities for audio visual presentations. The third floor is
allocated to tea sales outlets, where a selection of Srilanka’s fine tea is
available. The entire top floor is a restaurant. A panoramic view of the Kandy
town surrounded by the beautiful Hunasgiriya, Knuckles Range and the Matale
range of hills can be viewed through a telescope mounted on the fourth floor.
