ETOA, the European Tourism Association, is
a leading trade association of over 850 travel industry members. We have worked
with .travel since its inception, and are proud to help our members choose the
right .travel domain name for them. We ourselves have several .travel sites for
our flagship events. Using these sites helps showcase our industry, and we plan
to have more in the future.
Technology and its ever-evolving usage has
transformed the visitor economy in recent years. It has altered the way travellers
research, book and enjoy their experiences, as well as how travel businesses
talk to each other and partnerships are made.
The consumer purchase cycle for travel
products has changed. A short chat with a travel agent has been replaced by a
content-rich research phase, carried out across multiple devices. We trust our
own networks the most, and integrated review technologies and unfettered access
to targeted social media platforms have made access to these options easier
than ever. Today’s travellers want to share their experiences during and after
their trip; there has never been a better time to be an Instagrammable
destination or attraction.
The ability to be seen is not always a good
thing for some destinations, though. There is now such a problem as too many
visitors, and we are starting to see a backlash from cities such as Venice and
Barcelona, who are struggling to support increased visitor numbers to some of
their once lesser-known corners.
For businesses trying to keep up,
personalisation is the name of the game. Increased access to large amounts of
consumer data are making it easier to tailor-make content to the individual,
and consumers increasingly expect to see this.
