ABU DHABI – Shangri-La Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu Dhabi
today announced the world’s largest date sculpture in the shape of a
traditional Arabic coffee pot. The
sculpture, reaching 5 meters high, took five days to build by a team of 30
people. Located at Lobby Lounge, this
structure, which used 16 varieties of dates, was created in honor of Ramadan
and the traditional fruit eaten when breaking fast during iftar.
The culinary team at Shangri-La Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, Abu
Dhabi used dates from all over the region, such as ajwa, khalas, munaify,
mashrooq, sellag, wanana, rabia, khodri and more. Members from the kitchen, housekeeping,
engineering, administration and front office participated in the construction
of the sculpture, which now graces the hotel lobby entrance. The display welcomes visitors coming to Sofra
bld Grand Iftar.
“Dates are a long-standing tradition within the Middle East
community and are widely known for their health and protective benefits. Creating this piece of art for Ramadan honors
this fruit used to break the daily fast during iftar. We invite you to come and see it for yourself
and Ramadan Kareem to all,” said General Manager Thomas Guss.
Guests visiting the Grand Iftar at Sofra bld are given a
selection of dates from around the region to gently break their fast before
sampling the traditional Middle Eastern dishes prepared by the culinary team
this Ramadan.
