2013 Henley-On-Todd Regatta another Sailing Success

The 2013 Henley-On-Todd Regatta has been hailed another great success by the Rotary Clubs of Alice Springs organising Board. With just under 4,500 people clambering through the gates to experience the world famous Regatta celebrate its 52nd year.
The Todd Mall was lined with anxious onlookers waiting to experience the parade down the Mall and onto the site of the event with 352 competitors registering to take part in the fun and games. The popular BYO boat entries raced their own boats and included teams from various local business, backpackers, interstaters, communities and sporting clubs. The winner of the race was the ‘Pigs Can Fly’ team.
The deserts first International Lighthouse, ‘Cape Toddhad Ham Radio Operators contact over 50 lighthouses throughout the world and another 50 more contacts were made to licensed operators around the world. Several International Ham operators have indicated their desire to attend the Regatta in 2014.
Event Commodore, John Bridgefoot from Rotary, is delighted with the fantastic day. The weather was perfect for the 45% locals, 10% Internationals and the many interstaters visiting the Alice to be part of the 52nd Henley-On-Todd Regatta”. The film crews came from Scotland and Victoria joining the local crews to capture the moments and HAMBURGLAR arrived from NSW to entertain the little fun lovers.
The Commodores Best Dressed on the day was The MUMMY from the Egyptian Team and the Centralian Advocate Anchor the Boat was won by the US Navy. New addition for 2013 “Best photo of the day” was won by Tony Quarmby.
The event finale, The Imparja Battle Boat Spectacular, is always a crowd pleaser with the Vikings, Pirates and Sailors taking to the high seas in the colourful and exploding finish. The Vikingsfought gallantly with water bombs and cannon fire against the Navy boat “HMAS Courage” who performed admirably but the crowd favourite was the Nauteusas overall winners.
Commodore John said “We have raised some worthy funds for the three local Rotary Clubs in Alice Springs, and of course monies raised all go back into the Community and worthy Rotary projects. A big thank you to all the hard working volunteers and Henley-on-Todd Partners for their support. We look forward to a bigger and better year in 2014 for Henley-on-Todd’s 53rd year.
