Originating during the reign of Thai King Rama IV in 1863, the Loy Kratong festival is quickly becoming one of the most popular Thai celebrations, one in which both Thais and tourists can participate. Loi or Loy means “float” and a Kratong is a small raft made of banana tree leaves. The raft is decorated with elaborately-folded banana leaves, flowers, candles and incense sticks. A grand old European tradition came to Bangkok on September 17, when the chefs and management of the newly-opened Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Center at CentralWorld got together to blend the liquor and dried fruits to go into the Christmas cakes and Christmas puddings that will be prepared in the hotel’s own bakery come December.
With Suthikiati Chirathivat, chairman of The Executive Board, Central Plaza Hotel (Public) Co., Ltd. (the owning company of Centara Hotels & Resorts) supervising, into the mixing bowl went 10 kg of black raisins, 7 kg of dried apricots, 7 kg of pitted dried prunes and 14 bottles of Dark Rum. Agoda wants you to prepare for China’s Canton Fair
BANGKOK, Thailand (September 15, 2008) – Agoda.com, an online hotel reservations service which specializes in securing the lowest discount hotel prices in Asia and around the world, is reminding business travelers to prepare early, if they plan to attend the autumn “Canton Fair.” This year’s version will be the 104th session of China’s largest Import & Export Fair and is set to be housed in the Pazhou Complex in southeast Guangzhou.
The Canton Fair has become the most comprehensive trade event in China since its inception in 1957, and the recent move to the larger Pazhou Complex should help with its ever-increasing expansion. Held twice per year in Guanzhou, China’s “Flower City,” the fair has the largest scale, the widest variety of exhibits (nearly 20,000) and the most business turnover from nearly 200,000 buyers. Instead of the traditional two phases, this year’s edition will be broken into three.
