Belmar to Host the Italian Food and Wine Festival

Two-day event part of weeklong Festival Italiano


LAKEWOOD, Colo., Sept. 12 / -- Belmar, located at Wadsworth and Alameda in Lakewood, will host the third annual Italian Food and Wine Festival from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on September 23 - 24. The two-day event is part of the citywide Festival Italiano that celebrates Italian culture by featuring the sights, sounds and flavors of Italy. The festival will feature 65 of the finest Italian food, wine and artisan vendors from the area who will sell ceramics, gelato, sausage, baked goods, pasta, flowers, herbs, sculpture, antique maps, produce, pizza and much more. Gli Sbandieratori-flag throwers from Florence, Italy, will provide authentic Italian entertainment. There will be regional Italian wine tasting for adults, chef demonstrations, Italian lessons and a bocce ball tournament. Activities for children include the Balistreri Vineyards children's grape stomp, hourly readings of classic Italian stories, a Pinocchio and Princess cut-out for photos, face painting and chalk drawing. Century Theatres will present free screenings of Italian film classics on both days. New to the festival this year is a free performance at 4 p.m. on September 23 in the Plaza at Belmar by the Jefferson Symphony Orchestra of Festival Italiano Overture, which has been specifically arranged for the festival. "We are delighted that Belmar is hosting the Italian Food and Wine Festival," said Lakewood Mayor Steve Burkholder. "The management of Belmar is committed to providing diverse cultural activities for Lakewood residents, the metro area and the region. This is an important part of that commitment."
