Korean Air Makes Asia Easier for Rocky Mountain Travelers

LOS ANGELES, CA – August 24– Las Vegas is destined to become an international travel hub for the Rocky Mountain states when Korean Air begins flying to Asia from there Sept. 22. The carrier is launching three times a week service to Seoul/Incheon, with quick connections to more than 50 cities in Asia. “In addition to Las Vegas, the cities of Denver, Salt Lake and Phoenix will benefit most from Korean Air’s new service,” said John Jackson, Korean Air’s North American marketing chief. “Passengers now can avoid the long lines and inherent crowds at west coast international airports and opt for Las Vegas as their international gateway.” “It’s virtually the same flying time and certainly one-half the hassle,” Jackson noted. Airport authorities agree. “Between Virgin Atlantic to Europe and Korean Air to Asia, Las Vegas provides a truly strong international gateway to both continents for passengers in the Rocky Mountain states,” said McCarran International Airport’s Director of Aviation, Randall H. Walker. “Korean Air rounds out our ability to service this important, growing region.” Jackson said last year, he expects to generate more than 5,000 passengers from Denver, Phoenix and Salt Lake using Las Vegas as their take off point to Asia. While he says that competition with US carriers is fierce, he notes that Korean Air’s extraordinary service will create cause to compare. “No American carrier can duplicate the attentive and caring Asian airline style. It’s what makes Asian carriers tops in the world. Korean Air’s award-winning service will no doubt be a viable competitor,” Jackson commented. “And since we’re a member of SkyTeam, miles accrued on Korean Air’s long haul flights are accepted by Delta, Northwest and Continental. It’s tough to compete with great mileage plus extraordinary service,” he added. Korean Air will be flying a 300-seat Boeing 777 between Las Vegas and Asia every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. The flight departs around midnight and arrives in Seoul/Incheon at 6 a.m. the next day, perfect for connections to Korean Air’s more than 60 destinations in Asia including Hong Kong, Singapore, Manila, Bangkok and 17 destinations in mainland China. “Korean Air flies to more destinations in Asia from more North American cities than any other airline in the world,” Jackson said. “Las Vegas provides all kinds of opportunities for us. We’re excited about being a part of the community.” Korean Air, with a fleet of 117 aircraft, operates almost 400 passenger flights per day to 92 cities in 32 countries. It is a founding member of the SkyTeam alliance and is the only airline in the world that has successful passenger, cargo and aerospace operations.
