Growing Number of Tourists Flock to Cyprustravelconnect.co.uk New figures show an increase in the number of tourists visiting the stunning Mediterranean island.A new Passengers Survey has revealed that 315,437 travellers arrived in Cyprus in September 2007 compared to 296,532 in September 2006 – an increase of 6.4%. It’s easy to see why – think five star resorts amid beautiful beaches, scattered with picturesque villages, Greek orthodox churches, Byzantine monasteries and fascinating Greek and Roman ruins. It’s also a popular spa destination, at the forefront of thalassotherapy – which is why tourism revenue reached £179 in August 2007 compared to £155 in the same month the previous year, up by 15.5%. The island draws travellers to its sunny Mediterranean climate, perfect for sunbathing, watersports and hiking among the hills. Visitors should make sure they visit the ancient city kingdom of Kourion, one of the most impressive archaeological sites, and swim at Petra tou Romiou, a rock that marks the spot where Aphrodite supposedly emerged from the sea foam in ancient times. |
