ADTA makes Abu Dhabi's largest ever tourism presence in WTM

The Abu Dhabi Travel and Tourism Authority is leading a powerful team of travel and tourism entities to the World Travel Market (WTM) to be held in London from 12 to 15 November.


This year the WTM will see Abu Dhabi's largest ever presence through a line-up of its latest travel and tourism projects and products to be showcased under the umbrella of Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA). More than 200 exhibitors will take part in the WTM, representing 71 players in the Emirate's tourism sector.

Being the World Travel Market's premier sponsor for 2007 and 2008, Abu Dhabi is set to showcase itself as an emerging international tourist destination in the region with a number of the latest inspiring mega tourism projects the show on a pavilion stretching over an area of 610 square metres. The range of Abu Dhabi's tourism products and packages on offer at the WTM will continue to cover accommodation, tourist attractions, international sports and cultural events, golf gardens, shopping experience, sightseeing and safari tours.

Spearheaded by ADTA, the Abu Dhabi Pavilion, ME 1000, will encompass five corporate corners for some of Abu Dhabi's dominant travel and tourism-related organizations including Abu Dhabi Airport Company (ADAC), Abu Dhabi National Hotels, Al Dar, Danat Hotels and Resorts and Emirates Palace Hotel.

ADTA will also use the event to promote Abu Dhabi's ambitious plans to expand and diversify its tourism facilities, including an increase in hotel capacity from 10,000 to 25,000 rooms by 2015. Many of these new hotels will be part of some of the state-of-art developments incorporating residential, commercial, recreational and cultural facilities, including the Saadiat Island project adjacent to Abu Dhabi City.

Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority said: "ADTA and our Abu Dhabi's industry partners are delighted that the emirate is largely represented at the World Travel Market 2007 once again. This year we have a large number of top travel and tourism delegates spanning a wide range of travel and tourism products and projects including hoteliers, travel agents, tour operators, attractions, tourism development projects, and event organisers.

"Our participation in this premier international event is part of the government of Abu Dhabi's strategic plans which aim at promoting the emirate as a leading tourist destination in the region with substantial tourism projects and development plans which aim to position tourism as a major non-oil economy sector.

"It is exceptionally good news that the emirate's tourism industry and the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority have joined forces together to boost tourism sector following the launch of the government's new strategy plan that aims to position the emirate as leading tourist destination in the region." Sheikh Sultan added.

Highlighting the importance of participating in the World Travel Market, HE Sheikh Sultan said: "WTM will always represent a major travel trade platform for us to reinforce our commitment towards building a world-class tourist destination. It provides a unique opportunity for us and Abu Dhabi's travel and tourism industry and other related businesses to meet, network, conduct business and stay abreast with the latest developments in the travel and tourism industry. The show brings together worldwide buyers and sellers from every sector of the industry providing a unique platform for our Abu Dhabi's travel trade partners to share some of Abu Dhabi's latest tourism developments with the world's most influential industry professionals and decision makers."

Stressing the strong the relationships between the UK and the UAE, Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Chairman, ADTA, said: "Historically, the UK and the UAE have enjoyed strong relationships and the trade and tourism continue to enjoy strong growth between the two countries. The UK has been the largest source market of visitors to Abu Dhabi and, with the ADTA's new office up and running in London, the number of visitors from the UK to Abu Dhabi is expected to rise as efforts get underway to promote the Emirate for all of Europe."
