Kenya: Tourism to Be Showcased in Londonallafrica.com The tourism sector is set to showcase Kenya as a preferred destination at the World Travel Market to be held in London. The annual exhibition brings together over 40,000 participants under one roof, providing an opportunity for the whole global travel trade industry to meet, network, and negotiate. "This is one of the biggest exhibitions in the industry and it gives us the opportunity to showcase our products as well as reach out to the world," the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife Rebecca Nabutolla said. Over 30 participants, drawn from the public and private sectors, are expected to attend the fair. They will include hotel representatives, tour operators, Utalii College, Kenya Wildlife Service, Kenya Tourist Board, and Kenya Airways, among others. "This is one of the best opportunities to showcase the country's national parks as well as see what our competitors have to offer," Andrew Toboso, the head of marketing at KWS, told Business Daily. The exhibition provides a platform to "stay abreast with the latest developments in the industry," he said. Participants also get to attend forums that address issues that affect the sector. By participating in such forums the country is able to market itself, helping to grow the sector even further. Currently, the sector is looking to earn Sh62bn this year. The country's stand has gained popularity due to its products and most importantly its DAWA, a mixture of Vodka, honey and sugar on ice. To ensure guests get their drink, students from Utali College will accompany the exhibitors in a bid to showcase the best of Kenya's tastes and talent in the hospitality industry. Last year 46,900 travel industry professionals participated, representing over 200 countries and regions and over £28 billion worth of business was spent. The exhibition will open on 12 November and run for four days. |
