Over 800 tourism professionals from 88 different countries convened at the 68th World Congress of the International Association of Travel and Tourism Professionals (SKAL) on Sunday, to discuss the future of tourism.

The convention, held in Antalya, will last for six days and this year's theme is Under the Wings of Civilisations.

Asuman Tariman, chairwoman of the SKAL Antalya Club, told the Turkish Daily News that the latest trends in the tourism sector will be discussed at the congress and attendees will have the chance to collaborate with investors from different countries.

She added that organising the congress was a big opportunity for Antalya, which hosts over six million tourists every year.

The popular tourist destination was chosen as the host town of the conference over London.

SKAL, from the Scandinavian word meaning cheers, is a professional organisation of tourism leaders from around the world, promoting global tourism and friendship. It is the only international group that unites all branches of the travel and tourism industry.

The first SKAL club in Turkey was founded in 1956 in Istanbul. Today there are 13 SKAL clubs in Turkey with 850 members.
