The 57th DUBROVNIK SUMMER FESTIVAL
July 10 – August 25, 2006
Croatia’s premier cultural event: an international festival of music, theater and dance in a city a legacy of centuries of civilization. The unique ambient of the closed and open-air stages of the Renaissance and Baroque city of Dubrovnik are home, during the festival to about 80 plays, ballets, operas and musical performances, promotions of literary works, exhibitions, recitals of poetry and much more. The Dubrovnik Summer festival was founded in 1950 and has since 1956 been a member of the European Festival Association. www.dubrovnik-festival.hr.
SUMMER NIGHTS IN RIJEKA
June 29 – July 27
This festival was formerly known as “Cultural Summer in Rijeka”, and it brings many artists and performers both from Croatia and other countries into this beautiful town on the northern coast of Croatia. Croatian National Theater “Ivan Noble Zajc” in Rijeka and all of its ensembles will take part in this year’s events that will attract many foreign and domestic tourists. AMADEO – Theatrical and Musical Summer Club Stage, Zagreb

KEMPINSKI HOTEL “ISTRIA” (Opening Spring 2008)
Hotel chain Kempinski has invested in a 5-star property and 31 exclusive villas, with an 18-hole golf course in beautiful town of Savudria, on the western coast of Istria. Formerly Hotel “Lav” (Lion), Le Meridien Split will open in 3rd Quarter of this year. This is the first chain’s property in the Region and will have 1,000 beds capacity. Well known Italian interior decorator Lorenzo Bellini is doing the entire design for this “State of the Art” Resort in Split.
GRAND HOTEL ELAPHUSA, BOL, renovated, with more bed capacity
4-star property Elaphusa in Bol, on the island of Brac, now has 300 beds in its capacity, after a major renovation that took place before this summer season. The hotel is only 10 minutes away from the island’s world famous beach “Zlatni Rat”.
THE 52nd SPLIT SUMMER
July 14 – August 14
Traditional summer festival of opera, theater, dance and music. It takes place on locations in and around the city, including the Dioclecian’s Palace. Besides city’s National Theater, many artists and performers from different countries will take place in this year’s events. Split Summer is one of Croatia’s oldest and most known cultural summer festivals, dating back to 1954. www.splitsko-ljeto.hr
OSOR MUSIC EVENINGS, Island of Cres
July 12 – August 24
This is a festival of classical music. Renowned ensembles and soloist from Croatia and abroad take part in this festival in the stunning ambient of the town of Osor, on the island of Cres. The concerts take place in the former Cathedral and the square in front of it. This year’s theme is Croatian composer Blagoje Bersa.
2006 – YEAR OF NIKOLA TESLA
This year we celebrate 150 years since this great inventor and scientist was born in Smiljan, in the Lika region of Croatia. He has spent his best years in the USA, mostly in New York, where he died in 1943.10th July this year is Tesla Day in New York State. Many events in Croatia celebrate his life and work. Tesla Memorial Society from New York is sending clippings about his life and work (dating from 1892 to 1920) to newly opened Tesla Museum in his native village of Smiljan, and they will remain there as a permanent exposition.
