Destinations double for airline

Air South West is to double the number of destinations it flies to from its Devon base at Plymouth Airport.

The airline has announced five new routes, including its first flight to mainland Europe.

From April next year passengers will be able to fly to Newcastle, Glasgow, Dublin and Cork.

Flights to the French ski resort of Chambery will start the following December, while flights from Newquay Airport are increasing too.

Air South West currently flies to five destinations from Plymouth - London Gatwick, Manchester, Leeds Bradford, Bristol and Jersey.

But from April next year passengers will also be able to fly to four other cities and France at the end of 2008.

There has been some uncertainty about the future of Plymouth Airport after plans were revealed to sell off part of the site for development.

But Mike Coombes, from Air South West, rejected this, saying: "We see this as a very strong platform for further development of air services from Plymouth and Newquay airports."

Newquay will get new flights to Glasgow, Newcastle and Chambery and an increased service to Cork following a successful summer-only service this year.
