Sino-Russian border town hosts more tourists

Suifenhe, a town on Sino-Russian border in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, hosted had more than 510,000 tourists from Russia this year ending September, a rise of 15.6 percent from a year ago.


Information from the department for the port of entry in Suifenhe City said the influx of Russian tourists to this northeast Chinese border city began to increase from July, many ofwhom visited China for sake of shopping.

During the seven-day National Day holiday season that started on Oct.1, 12,572 Russian tourists hit the port of entry in Suifenhe, up 44.3 percent in comparison with the figure last year.

An official with the tourism administration of the city predicted that Russian tourists to Suifenhe would peak in November.

China shares border with Russia in Heilongjiang Province in the east and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in the west. Suifenhe, which is now a leading Chinese land port for doing trade with Russia, did 3.71 billion US dollars worth of foreign trade and had590,000 overseas tourists last year.
