Aer Lingus sells stake in chartered airline services company Futura

iht.com

Aer Lingus Group PLC said Wednesday it has sold its remaining 20 percent stake in Futura, a Spanish-registered company operating chartered airline services, for a net profit of €11.3 million (US$16.2 million).

Aer Lingus said a British private equity firm, Hutton Collins, and Futura management bought the shares in an all-cash deal. The airline had sold them most of its Futura stake in 2002 but retained a 20 percent stake at that time.

"Aer Lingus will now continue to focus on developing our core short-haul and long-haul networks in order to deliver sustainable profitable growth," Aer Lingus chief executive Dermot Mannion said.

Futura provides charter aircraft to more than a dozen European airlines, particularly for summertime package-holiday destinations.
