5000 more rooms for tourists in Delhi by 2010

NEW DELHI: Delhi will have 5,000 more rooms by 2010 to accommodate the tourists visiting the city for the Commonwealth Games, State Tourism Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said today at the first International Hospitality Fair 2007 here.


"The fair will focus on the hospitality industry to provide better facilities to the tourists in Delhi," the minister said adding that the government on its part was planning to organise cultural programmes every month to encourage tourism.

Lt Governor Tejendra Khanna, who inaugurated the four-day fair, emphasised on "service excellence" to make the country a preferred destination for the global tourists.

"Net value addition will enrich the experience of a tourist for an everlasting impression of India and Indians must preserve the cultural uniqueness of the country," he added.

Priya Paul of National committee on tourism of CII suggested need to focus on eco-tourism and sustainable growth of the industry.

More than 100 exhibitors from the hospitality service are participating in the fair which will showcase various tourism products.
