Brazilian Tourism Institute to open an office in China

etravelblackboardasia.com

The Brazilian Tourism Institute will open an office in either Beijing or Shanghai to allow direct involvement in the Chinese market, following the decision made by the Brazil-China Chamber of Economic Development.

Brazil and China’s presidents first signed an Approved Destination agreement for Brazil in 2004. Each year, Chinese tourists have increased with 20,000 Chinese tourists travelling to destinations around Brazil in 2006.

China has more than 300 million consumers as well as 25 million millionaires seeking markets to invest in, including hotel and airport construction, remarked Alexandre Da Mata, the chamber’s Tourism Director.

In 2006, 47,000 Brazilian tourists visited China and Hong Kong which was an increase of 26% from the previous year. An increase of 15 – 20% is also expected for this year.

He also referred to a World Tourism Organization study which predicted that by 2020, China would become the market receiving the largest number of tourists.

“The aggressive development of the country also has repercussions on the tourism operation that are well structured. It is an economy that cannot be ignored,” he said.
