German airline to start flights

bbc.co.uk

A Cornish airport has announced plans to begin flights to and from Germany from next summer.

The German airline Lufthansa will begin a weekly service during the summer months linking Newquay airport with the city of Dusseldorf from June 2008.

Chris Cain, from the airport says the move is good news for the county.

He said Germany was Cornwall's strongest overseas tourist market after being made popular there by Rosamunde Pilcher TV dramatisations.

"We are confident this direct link will provide an even greater boost for inbound tourism from Germany," said Mr Cain.

Rosamunde Pilcher's books, many of which are set in Cornwall, are especially popular in Germany, where the national television station ZDF has produced dramatisations of nearly 40 of her stories.
