NUSA DUA, Bali: The Malaysian Tourism Promotion Director General Dato Mirza said his office hoped that the number of Indonesian tourists visiting the country in 2007 would reach two million.

"We hope that the number of Indonesian tourists visiting our country would meet our target of two million," he told the press on the sidelines of the ongoing PATA Travel Mart in Nusa Dua, Bali, on Friday.

More than one million people had come to Malaysia to spend their holidays since January to July, Dato Mirza said, adding that mainly Indonesian tourists come from Sumatra, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Java.

"The Malaysian government devoted a special attention to Indonesian tourists since 1998, because the tourism industry has achieved impressive achievements", Dato Mirza added.

Dato Mirza said Malaysia was offering special promotion and affordable tourist packages this year, among other in relation with the celebration of the country’s 50th anniversary.

The Malaysian Ministry of Tourism has offered mega sale packages to Indonesian tourists.

According to Dato Mirza, the tourism industry is the biggest contributor to the state’s revenue.

"Practically all parts of Malaysia have interesting tourists’ spots, like the Petronas Twin Tower in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Johor," he said.
