American Eagle Airlines Continues Gulf Coast Expansion With New Chicago O'Hare - Gulfport, Miss., Service

American Eagle, the regional affiliate of American Airlines, will add a daily nonstop flight between Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) and Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport (GPT) beginning Dec. 13.

American Eagle will operate the service with 44-seat Embraer ERJ-140 jets. American Eagle already has three daily round trips between Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport.


"We are pleased to provide direct access to Chicago from the Mississippi Gulf Coast," said Peter Bowler, President and CEO of American Eagle Airlines. "This new route will also be popular with Chicagoans in the winter to provide quick and easy access to a nice, warm destination like Gulfport-Biloxi."


"While serving on the Senate's aviation subcommittee, I've worked extensively with airlines to help secure numerous direct flights from Mississippi to major U.S. cities like New York, Washington, D.C., Detroit, Orlando and Houston," said Sen. Trent Lott (R-Miss.) "Certainly this new link will complement the ongoing expansion of the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport. With direct service to Chicago, a primary hub for international flights, Mississippi becomes even more accessible for recreational and business travelers, and American Airlines investment in this region reflects their strong faith in Mississippi's recovery and the Gulf Coast's economic future."

With the addition of the new Gulfport-Biloxi service, American Eagle will serve eight cities in the Gulf Coast region from Chicago: Birmingham, Ala. (two daily); Baton Rouge, La. (one daily); Fort Walton Beach, Fla. (one daily); Jackson, Miss. (one daily); Mobile, Ala. (one daily); Pensacola, Fla. (two daily); and Shreveport, La. (one daily).
