Amtrak, Access America Announce New Partnership

Amtrak and Access America today announced a partnership that will offer rail passengers the option to purchase travel insurance protection for their trip.

Confirmed passengers will be directed to a co-branded website, HYPERLINK "http://www.etravelprotection.com/amtrak" www.etravelprotection.com/amtrak, through a link in their Amtrak itinerary confirmation. Eventually, the insurance will be offered as part of the existing Amtrak.com booking path.


"Amtrak is pleased to partner with Access America, a leader in travel insurance products, to offer online customers an extra measure of comfort when planning a trip or vacation," said Kathleen Gordon, senior director, e-commerce for Amtrak. "Access America's travel insurance provides our passengers the products and peace of mind to protect their entire travel investment, and represents best practices in the transportation industry."


Though it is a first for Amtrak passengers, Access America has been protecting millions of travelers across the globe for more than 20 years. For Amtrak, Access America developed three insurance packages based on the needs of rail passengers and the typical costs of rail travel. The travel insurance offered to Amtrak passengers provides coverage for circumstances such as lost baggage, travel delays or interruption and emergency medical or dental issues.


Access America's insurance products also provide travel assistance services and a concierge service - all through a multi-lingual, 24-hour hotline. Amtrak passengers will have the option of choosing between three packages with varying rates and coverage.


"We understand that the best laid travel plans are just that - plans, usually mapped out well in advance," said Beth Godlin, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Access America. "For passengers laying out a careful itinerary, be it to New York City for some shopping or to the Grand Canyon with the family, adding travel insurance can mean the confidence to take advantage of a great rate or the ability to be spontaneous, knowing that if something unforeseen comes up, you're covered."
