Tanzanian investors set to launch low fare airline for east African passengers

nationmedia.com

Community Airlines, a Tanzanian start-up, will from mid this month start cargo and passenger airline operations, offering attractive fares on regional routes.

Chief executive officer Paul Chizi told The EastAfrican last week the airline will offer affordable fares to Tanzanians.

Mr Chizi said Tanzania’s first low-fare airline wants to make air travel affordable for all. It will service passengers and cargo within the region using two modern Boeing 737 planes and two turbo propelled planes.

“The Community Airlines fleet will consist of two Boeing 737-200s (118 seats) and two 300s (148 seats) and they will be maintained by one of the biggest and most reputable maintenance companies in Africa,” he said.

He did not disclose the name of the maintenance firm.

The airline also plans to offer passengers bus services between Julius Nyerere International Airport and Dar es Salaam city centre and its environs, especially at night.

Fares and taxes will be shown separately to ensure that the airline remains true to its promise of transparency in separating the airfares and mandatory taxes levied by the government and collected by airlines on its behalf.

This method of display will still provide customers with an all-inclusive price. However, it will also provide them with a better indication of where their money is being spent with regard to services rendered.

The airline intends to fly to destinations currently not served by other airlines to ease the travel difficulties experienced by passengers to the Mbeya and Ruvuma regions.
