yomiuri.co.jp

Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University is to sign a memorandum of understanding on mutual cooperation in tourism education with the U.N. World Tourism Organization next Wednesday, a first among educational institutions in the nation.

According to an APU spokeswoman, the university in Beppu, Oita Prefecture, and UNWTO intend to collaborate on tourism education and research and industry support activities in the Asia-Pacific region. Since opening in 2000, the university's College of Asia Pacific Studies has trained students to work in the region's tourism industry.

Headquartered in Madrid, UNWTO is the world's largest international tourism organization, with about 150 member countries and territories, and more than 300 affiliate members. Its mission is to promote and develop responsible, sustainable and universally accessible tourism as a specialized U.N. agency.
