Search resumes for South Korean tourists

news.com.au

A LAND, air and sea search has resumed for two South Korean men missing on a treacherous stretch of the West Australian coast.

Jongcheal Kim, 24, and Jonghyuk An, 26, who are on a working holiday in south-west WA, were last heard of on Thursday when they told friends they were going fishing at Conto's Beach, about 30km from the town of Margaret River.

Searchers do not know if the men were swept from a rocky outcrop into the Indian Ocean or got lost along the rugged coastline which is notorious for strong currents and big waves.

Police Sergeant Stuart Mearns said today no sign of the men had been found since searchers began looking for them on Saturday.

"There has been no word and we have found no sign of them at all," Sgt Mearns said.

He said an air search would be conducted today while people searched the shore on foot and boats and jetskis searched for signs of the men in the water.

The search was launched on Saturday after a Department of Conservation and Land Management ranger noticed the men's car had been sitting at the beach carpark for two days.

A group of the men's friends, also from South Korea, alerted police about the same time.

Their friends and a South Korean consular representative helped in the search yesterday.
