russia-ic.com

On August 24-25 the Russian city of Tobolsk organized Royal Days dedicated to the Romanovs Royal Family.

On August 23, straight prior to Royal Days, archaeologists found some remains preliminarily thought of as remains of Nicholas II. The archaeological find has caused many disputes in media. It is already planned set a monument to the Royal Family on the place where the remains were found and give it a sightseeing status.

However, many are rather sceptic about the remains and the Royal Days which were initially meant to be remembrance days of the Romanovs. Russian Orthodox Church has expressed their worry concerning the travel-advertising character of the recent Royal Days in Tobolsk. Some representatives of travel business of Russia partially share the Church’s position and are sure that Royal Days and the fuss around the remains are a well-planned PR action aimed at attracting more tourists to the region.

In 2003 the government announced their plans of turning Tobolsk into the main tourist centre of Western Siberia; this year the officials hope to make the city a beneficial part of Russian economy; it is also known that the city gets considerable investments for the tourist infrastructure development.
