Cyprus tourist arrivals were up 3.2 percent last month compared to July 2006 but remained 1.7 percent down for the year so far compared to the corresponding period, official figures showed on Thursday.

But arrivals for the first seven months of the year totalled 1.31 million, compared to the 1.33 million received in the corresponding period of 2006.
Despite the decrease in tourist numbers however, tourism earnings rose, as the amount spent per holidaymaker continued upwards.
At 274.5 million pounds (473.3 million euros), revenues for the first five months of 2007 were up 1.9 percent on the 269.5 million pounds (464.7 million euros) earned in the same period of last year.
Full-year earnings in 2006 amounted to 1.027 billion pounds (1.77 billion euros) despite a three percent drop in arrivals, helping the Mediterranean resort island to a growth rate of four percent.
