INCREASING NUMBER OF TOURISTS IN BULGARIA STAGE FALSE CRIMES AGAINST THEMSELVES

An increasing number of foreign tourists in Bulgaria have been complaining to police officers of being victims of crimes that they themselves have invented.
In most of the cases, the tourists were drunk and did not remember were they had been, what really happened to them or did not realise that they had lost their belongings, Focus news agency reported.
They report false information to police offices to receive insurance money, claiming that they have been raped or robbed. Their aim is to receive compensations of nearly 1500 euro, Pavlin Dimitrov from the police in Bourgas said. He said that the sum was enough for a summer holiday in Bulgarian resorts.
Sometimes, the "victims" themselves confess that they have fabricated the crime.
Dimitrov said that sometimes the said "stolen" audio or video equipment is found at the airport in the baggage of the tourists who complained that they were robbed.
