Airline ordered to disclose all taxes

United Airlines will be required to include all taxes, levies and charges in its fare advertisements.
The airline gave the legally enforceable commitment to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) after the watchdog was made aware of headline advertisements on United's Australian website omitting some taxes and charges.
The ACCC said failing to make consumers aware of the full cost to be paid was a breach of the Trade Practices Act.
"Consumers are entitled to expect accurate information from all companies, large and small, when those companies advertise or promote goods and services," ACCC chairman Graeme Samuel said.
"This should further reinforce the message to the travel industry that the ACCC expects all forms of price advertising to comply with the act," he said.
United said it will also review its trade practices compliance program to ensure it meets its obligations under the act.
