caribbeannetnews.com

The issue of Tourist Safety and Security will be analysed at a meeting being organised by the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) and the Caribbean Hotel Association (CHA) on July 5-7, 2007, in Port of Spain.

The Regional Policy Dialogue on Tourist Safety and Security, which is being held in collaboration with the Trinidad Hotels, Restaurants and Tourism Association, and with the technical and financial contribution of PRO€INVEST, will welcome representatives from hotel and tourism organisations, security and law enforcement agencies, as well as health and disaster management agencies from the Greater Caribbean region, including Trinidad and Tobago, and provide a space for open discussion on the issues, challenges and varied dimensions surrounding the subject of tourist safety and security.

The Regional Policy Dialogue is a follow up to the 2003 Symposium on Enhancing Tourist Destinations – Policies and Strategies for Visitor Protection.

Among the issues to be discussed at next week’s event are Regional Tourist Safety and Security Initiatives, Identifying Issues and Roles in Managing Tourism Safety and Security, the Multi-dimensions of Tourist Safety and Security and Establishing National Networks and Action Plans for Tourist Safety and Security.

A number of special presentations will be made, allowing participants to learn from other countries’ experiences with managing crises in tourism safety and security and enhancing tourist safety through technology.

The final day’s programme will examine the next steps to be taken in the establishment of a Regional Network for Tourist Safety and Security, and will be open, by invitation only, to Senior Law Enforcement and Judiciary Officials from regional and international organisations.
