Airline plans direct city flights to the Red Seaeveningtimes.co.uk HOLIDAYMAKERS looking for a break in the sun can now book a flight from Glasgow to the Red Sea after flyglobespan launched a new winter route. The internet-based airline, which already offers direct flights to Florida and European destinations, has added Sharm el-Sheikh to its list of winter breaks. Egypt has grown in popularity with holidaying Scots of all ages, with the promise of good weather, historic sites and activity holidays. Flyglobespan chairman Tom Dalrymple said: "I am very pleased we have been able to add such an exciting destination to our Glasgow programme. advertisement"Egypt's popularity has been growing each year with UK winter sun seekers - and it is easy to see why. "The climate is superb and it's a fascinating country. It is steeped in history for sightseers and offers some of the world's finest diving and snorkelling for the more energetic." Prices start at £174.99 one way, including taxes. The new route, which offers connections to some of Egypt's most popular resorts, is the latest boost to the fortunes of Scotland's busiest airport. Gordon Dewar, Glasgow Airport's managing director, said: "Sharm el-Sheikh is a fast-growing tourist destination offering world class resorts and luxury hotels. "Orlando Sanford is another superb year round destination, so it's great flyglobespan is to continue its Florida winter service." From today, passengers can book flights from options that will again include flights to Orlando, Florida and daily services to Barcelona, Alicante and Malaga. Flights to Florida start at £199 plus taxes and the cheapest tickets to the Spanish destinations cost less than £32 including tax. And the airline is planning more winter routes. Mr Dalrymple said: "I am delighted we are continuing to grow our programme from Glasgow and look forward to continuing that expansion." He said the Glasgow to Florida route was proving to be one of the most popular offered anywhere by the company. And he promised the airline would continue to offer daily trips to its Spanish airports to give holidaymakers the most flexible options for winter breaks. The new programme begins in November. |
