Jordan launches tourism awareness strategypetra.gov.jo Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in cooperation with Seyaha (tourism) Project on Wednesday launched Jordan strategy to increase public awareness on national tourism. The strategy launched during a special function patronized by Tourism Minister Osama al-Dabbas also aims to improve perception of average Jordanian about the tourism sector. The strategy includes a nation wide campaign organized by Seyaha, a project funded the US Agency for International Development (USAID). The campaign is designed to address decision makers, students, teachers, tour operators, the media and ordinary citizens explain to them the significant role of the tourism sector for national economy. A survey conducted by Seyaha last year showed that a large number of citizens do not have enough information about the vital role of tourism and its effect on people's lives and the national economy and therefore a strategy like this one deemed important. "Building a flourishing tourism sector with a good national income largely depends on the Jordanians' cooperation and their confidence in this sector," Dabbas said at the launching ceremony. Director of USAID Office for Economic Opportunities Diana Potman underlined the role of tourism in bringing in hard currency and creating more jobs. The first phase of the campaign starts as of today until the end of this year and the second year covers the year 2008 after which starts the third phase. |
