Tourism Professionals Ignored in Kashmirkashmirobserver.com Unemployed graduates and post-graduates in tourism management today said that given a chance they would revolutionize the tourism sector here because they have the expertise to do so.“But the government has ignored our skills and done us an injustice by recruiting untrained and unskilled personnel in the tourism sector,” they said. The professionally trained youth held a protest demonstration in the press colony today to highlight their plight. They said that their numbers did not exceed 150, but because of the government’s flawed policies their skills and capabilities were going waste. According to the protestors the tourism sector has 305 vacancies and they have been referred to the Services Selection and Recruitment Board. “But applications are being invited from everybody. This curtails the chances of those who have professional training in the field,” they said. “The government is conduction a Tourist Guide Training Programme these days, but it does not bother even to spare a glance for trained graduates in the subject,” they said. They said that they had gained proficiency in almost every aspect of tourism, and were highly conversant with the French, English and Italian languages. “But our qualifications are being sidelined, and graduation in any subject has been fixed as the criterion for the posts of receptionists and assistant tourism officers. |
