CheapTickets’ Cheap Squad has identified the top ten destinations where students are headed in March 2007 for a break from the books. The Spring Break Cheapometer not only provides the top ten college spring break destinations, but also evaluates the average daily rate (ADR) of 3-star hotels in each of the chosen markets to highlight where budget-conscious travelers can get the most bang for their buck.
“Spring Break is one of the most anticipated rites of passage for a college student but the price tag can be daunting,” said Marita Hudson of CheapTickets’ Cheap SquadSM. “The CheapTickets’ data outlined in the Cheapometer will allow students to plan their vacation without needing another student loan.”
Not surprisingly, the most popular domestic and international destinations for CheapTickets’ customers this Spring Break season were “hot” spots with plenty of sunshine. Miami claimed the top spot on the list, though as the destination is well into high-season, cost conscious students might expect higher than usual hotel room prices.
Another noteworthy Spring Break destination is Cancun, Mexico. The city has risen six spots on the CheapTickets Cheapometer since 2006, likely an example of recovery following the devastation of Hurricane Wilma. One year later, Cancun is thriving. However, CheapTickets data suggests that Acapulco is a more price-conscious alternative in 2007, where the ADR is $93.11 less per day.
”Students headed out of the United States should keep new passport rules top of mind when making travel plans,” added Hudson. “Getting a passport can take several weeks and students should plan ahead or consider an expedition service that can generally secure passports in a tighter time frame for a fee.”
South Padre Island, Texas: CheapTickets Best Spring Break Value Destination of 2007
