D.O.T. to probe airline delays

pacific.bizjournals.com

The inspector general of the U.S. Department of Transportation will investigate airline customer service commitments in cases of extended ground delays.

Inspector General Calvin Scovel said Tuesday he had been asked by the secretary of transportation to do this following "recent incidents in which passengers were stranded aboard aircraft for protracted periods of time." JetBlue and US Airways all have had incidents of hours-long ground delays in recent months. Hawaii has been affected only indirectly, when vacationers are late arriving due to such problems. Hawaiian Airlines and Aloha Airlines have the best on-time records in the industry. Aloha came in first in November and December while Hawaiian came in first for 2006 as a whole.
