Bollywood Tourism package

Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), in association with Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari (Film City), is set to launch Bollywood Tourism package tours from January 20, 2014, which is its Foundation Day. Through the packages, tourists will be taken on guided tours of Film City where they will be able to witness film shoots and visit famous movie sets. This information was provided by Dr Jagdish Patil, Managing Director, MTDC, at a press conference held recently. There will be three packages costing Rs 499, Rs 1,999 and Rs 3,250, respectively.

Patil said, “Bollywood is one of the biggest film industries in the world. People come from remote parts of India just to get a glimpse of their favourite film stars, camping outside their homes and even waiting for several days. With our new offering, we will take tourists not only around the residences of the stars, but also on film and TV show sets. They can witness live shooting and if lucky, spot their favourite film stars on the sets.”

The lowest of Rs 499 per head has been labelled as ‘Hit’, which will be a three-hour guided tour of Film City from a 25-seater video coach. It includes visits to locations like helipads, lakes, filmy courts, famous reserve gardens and Khandala bridge. The four-hour ‘Super Hit’ package, priced at Rs 1,999 per head, will include guided tours of Bollywood’s very own Beverly Hills in Bandra to see bungalows and residences of their favourite stars. Besides, they will be able to discover Bollywood gully, museum, cafĂ© and costume gallery and witness how special effects are used in movies; tours of the sets of famous television serials; watching live shootings and celebrity-spotting. The third package, ‘Blockbuster’, is a four-to-five-hour tour, wherein tourists will be allowed to take part in a live shoot.

Bookings for the tourist packages can be done online at www.mumbaifilmcitytours.com. Tickets will be available at MTDC counters.

MTDC has assigned two agencies to manage the Bollywood Tourism project on its behalf, namely MOS Utility Pvt Ltd for the economical package and Travelmartindia.com Pvt. Ltd for the medium and high-end packages. Manoj Gursahani, Managing Director, Vamoose and Chairman, TravelMartIndia Pvt. Ltd. (TMI), and Laxmikant Deshmukh, Managing Director,  Film City (Goregaon), were present during the announcement of the new packages. Gursahani said that at a later stage, tourists will get a chance to visit vanity vans of film stars. Patil stated that the franchise may even tie up with famous Bollywood studios like Yash Raj for tourist visits.
