Long Beach Island is the center for classic shore family events on July 26 Weekend

The Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce has been working the promotional team behind the Stronger than the Storm campaign, the Borough of Ship Bottom, and the crew of the AJ Meerwald to coordinate a mid summer weekend that allows families to enjoy the simple comforts that has made the Jersey Shore the destination of choice for generations

Arriving with full sail, the AJ Meerwald docks in Beach Haven on July 26-31. Stop by Center Street and Bay at the Black Whale Dock; this restored 1928 Delaware Bay schooner allows you to experience history. Help haul the lines, host the sails or sit and take in the view. Public day and evening sails are available, with tickets ready to purchase. There will be a free Open House on July 26 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. when visitors are welcome to come down to the dock to tour the ship and meet the crew.

Coming to the 17th Street Beach Entrance in Ship Bottom, 930 am to 1230 on Saturday,  July 27 are two popular events that bring time honored beach traditions directly into the hands of vacationers. Kites and Castles, a popular event that has been running in selected beach areas, will be setting up  for a morning of creative activities. Two events running along side of each other, includes a professional sandcastle sculptor on site to teach children the art of building their own sandcastles. Spectators can also watch as the team builds a large signature castle on the beach for all to enjoy. For those who let their summer spirits soar, a kite building and flying workshop will also be underway to help children build and fly kites.
