Mauritius named Indian Ocean’s Leading Dive Destination

Mauritius was among the big names to emerge victorious at the World Travel Awards 2013 Indian Ocean ceremony, held at the Paradise Island Resort & Spa, Maldives on 12 May 2013. In fact, Mauritius won several trophies, namely the “Indian Ocean’s Leading Dive Destination” and the “Indian Ocean’s Leading Honeymoon Destination”.

The Minister of Tourism and Leisure, the Hon. Michael Sik Yuen, dedicated the prizes to the professionals and the stakeholders of the Mauritian tourism industry. He further stated the importance to promote the niche segments namely the honeymoon segment - a value-added for the destination.

“We can clearly see the positive effects of the diversification of the markets specifically in the honeymoon and sports (kitesurf and diving) segments. Mauritius has consolidated its position in the Indian Ocean as the undeniable Leader in terms of travel choice for honeymooners. In France, our island remains the number 1 choice for honeymoon destination. Even Air Mauritius made the country very proud by winning the Indian Ocean Leading Airline destination and has been doing so since 2005. This reinforces our commitment for further joint actions with the national airline.”

Air Mauritius was one of the shining stars on the night, capturing Indian Oceans Leading Airline for the ninth consecutive year. Several hotels were also distinguished for their outstanding performances.
