Peruvian Hotel Sol & Luna Lodge & Spa, named in Top 25 Hotels in the World by TripAdvisor at its annual Travellers’ Choice Awards 2013

The TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards 2013, based on millions of reviews and feedback from travellers who rated more than 650,000 Hotels around the world, recognized Sol & Luna Lodge & Spa in the Top 25 Hotels in the World, the only Hotel in Latin America named in this top award category.

It’s location in the Sacred Valley, just one hour thirty minutes by road from the historic Incan Capital City of Cusco, is 530m (1700ft) lower in altitude than Cusco, making it a favourite for guests wanting to acclimatise, and use it as a comfortable base to explore the region. The Incan Fortress town of Ollantaytambo, the gateway and departure and arrival point for all trains to and from the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Machu Picchu, is conveniently only 30 minutes away by road from the Hotel.

Marie-Helene, affectionately known as ‘Petit’, owner and on-site General Manager of Sol & Luna says; “We are absolutely delighted with the recognition and would like to thank TripAdvisor and all those millions of people who contributed with reviews and comments. When my husband and I moved to the Sacred Valley more than 15 years ago, we were immediately captivated by not only the amazing environment, but mostly by a culture and tradition of warmth and hospitality by the local Andean people. We try to ensure that the tradition lives on at Sol & Luna”

Sol & Luna Lodge & Spa is a tapestry of Andean culture, enriching experiences and luxurious living. Set within an exclusive 25 acre estate teeming with birdlife, indigenous and exotic flora, 43 Casitas built from mostly locally sourced materials blend seamlessly into the Andean landscape.
Facilities include two outstanding restaurants, led by internationally renowned Peruvian chef, Pedro Miguel Schiaffino and Resident Chef Nacho Selis, two Pisco Bars and lounges, a lounge library with over 1000 books, a swimming pool, a boutique featuring pieces from Peruvian artists, a fabulous rejuvenating Spa, equestrian stables and an adventure and culture centre. An exclusive wine cellar is also available for private gastronomical experiences of food and wine pairing.

Franz Schilter, Petit’s husband, co-owner and architect behind Sol & Luna says “every year we strive to improve and ensure we offer our guests an unforgettable experience. In 2012, we totally upgraded the Reception as well as our signature fine dining restaurant, with new fixtures and furnishings. We added a lounge library, to allow guests an extra space to enjoy the surroundings, as well as adding new sun lounger furniture to the pool side”, continues Franz. “We also started on refurbishing our Standard Casitas with hand painted murals on the walls and other soft touches, to enhance the guest experience, which will continue on into 2013”.

Sol & Luna Lodge & Spa also recently became the first Hotel in the Sacred Valley to offer visitors two regular spectacular Peruvian themed performances at its adjoining private ranch, Wayra. A Peruvian Paso Horse Demonstration showcases a centuries-old tradition of Peruvian folklore as elegant and noble spirited Paso horses demonstrate their flowing gait and graceful motion to the rhythm of ‘la marinera,’ the national dance of Peru. The Peruvian Paso Horse Demonstration is performed daily between 12pm-2:30pm. AKAPANA is a contemporary arts and circus performance incorporating traditional Peruvian drama and theatre with avant-garde circadian and artistic disciplines. AKAPANA is performed on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 7:30pm.

“Receiving this recognition from our guests is a huge honour and we’d just like to pay tribute to our staff, who have been fantastic and deserve all the credit. We look forward to welcoming many more guests to Sol & Luna in 2013 and beyond,” concludes Sol & Luna owner Marie-Helene ‘Petit’.
